HAMCO AUDITORIUM
CHINMAYA CENTRE OF
WORLD UNDERSTANDING
Contemporary state of knowledge and activism on gender equality and gender-based violence has identified intervention with boys and men on gender issues as a critical area for programmes and research. Social science research on issues of gender as well as the women’s movement has encountered the pervasive impact of gender-based violence. It is only recently in the Asian context that such work has begun to r ecognise the imperative of investigating gendered violence through an explicit focus on men, positioning them as both perpetrators and victims of violence. Identifying men as active agents within this context also offers the possibility of intervention into their actions.
Despite the obvious cultural, religious, and socio-economic differences across the region, there are significant overlaps in the forms of gender-based violence. In this context, the participants to this Round Table will dialogue on what policies will contribute to boys and men becoming active agents in the prevention of gender based violence. The Round Table brings in expertise from within south
